        CLINICAL STUDIES ON CANNABIS

Browse through our compiled collection of clinical studies on cannabis and CBD.

The first recorded use of cannabis as medicine dates back to ancient times. While it was used medicinally for thousands of years, it wasn’t until Dr. Raphael Mechoulam - Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at Hebrew University in Israel - discovered CBD and THC in the 1960s that cannabis became a subject of scientific study. Since then, over 100 different compounds have been isolated from the cannabis plant and continue to be researched today (Fichedick et al, 2010).

        Section Title

Researchers provide a reasonable factual basis supporting CBD's therapeutic potential for a number of physiological and psychological medical conditions due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-tremor, antispasmodic, antioxidant, neuroprotective, anti-psychotic, anxiolytic, and sleep-modulating effects.

Conclusions: Administration of oral CBD in addition to routine psychiatric care was associated with PTSD symptom reduction in adults with PTSD. CBD also appeared to offer relief in a subset of patients who reported frequent nightmares as a symptom of their PTSD. Additional clinical investigation, including double-blind, placebo-controlled trials, would be necessary to further substantiate the response to CBD that was observed in this study.
